The horrific Hollywood death guessing game: RIP Cory Monteith, next up is….

Today we lost a rising star of Hollywood.

‘Glee’ star Cory Monteith was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver by hotel staff who were concerned when he was late for check-out.

Whilst the cause of the death has not been confirmed, there is no secret that the 31 year old actor had been struggling with a drug addiction, after voluntarily checking himself into rehab in March earlier this year.

Social media has gone into overdrive after this tragic news of a ‘happy-go lucky Gleek’ passing away but there was a particular tweet that really disturbed me.

It implied that now that Monteith had died, Amanda Bynes was the next to go in the line of “Hollywood hotties who overdose and die well before their time”.

I’m sorry, but this shouldn’t be a guessing game!

It just shouldn’t!

But the the tweeter does initiate a valid point.

How many Hollywood stars have we seen lose their lives at an unacceptably young age due to drugs and substance abuse?

Marilyn Monroe, River Phoenix, Brittany Murphy, Amy Winehouse, Heath Ledger and now Cory Monteith.

To identify this pattern of utter tragedy amongst famous role models which could often have been prevented is shattering, it’s frustrating.

Then and now... Amanda Bynes

Then and now… Amanda Bynes

27 year old comedian actress Amanda Bynes is the most recent famous face whose mental breakdown has unravelled in the public eye.  From derogatory tweets to other stars to excessive plastic surgery and several arrests, Bynes’ behaviour resembles that of Hollywood party queens Brittany Spears and Lindsay Lohan in the past.

We don’t actually know what demons each of these stars have faced so there is no room for the public to display insensitivity… but let’s do hope that these celebrities take the steps required to restore personal strength so a premature death is not inevitable.

There is help.

Here is a sequence from ‘Glee’ which gave me the chills.  The show’s writer’s unintentionally foreshadowed a real life tragedy – RIP Cory Monteith.
